~just believes~
As I was looking at some articles concerning chocolates, the thought of Valentines Day came to my mind. I was thinking about how it all started even though February is long gone and forgotten. Due to fact that it is the autumn season and lovers get together kind of thing, I guess that is a valid reason why i thought of this. Well, for those who know the history of it, good for you and for those who knows only chocolates and roses on that particular day may google it. For now, I am just interested in collecting facts related to Valentines Day that some of us may know and may not know.

In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!" (I wonde
r why wooden spoons ‘cuz I had always had the impression that mothers uses wooden spoons to whack their kids when they misbehave.)

In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would place these names on their sleeves for a week. It is said, to wear your heart on your sleeve means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling.
(Shouldn’t it be placed on your chest, closer to your heart?)

In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps it, it means she will marry him.
(If she keeps it and her mum throws it away?)

Some people used to believe that if a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine's Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a millionaire.
(Ah, interesting…but atlas, it does not apply here in Malaysia)

A love seat is a wide chair which was first made to seat one woman along with her wide dress. Later, the love seat or courting seat had two sections, often in an S-shape. In this way, a couple could sit together -- but not too closely! <---- No wonder not many people use it nowadays.

Think of five or six names of boys or girls you might marry. As you twist the stem of an apple, recite the names until the stem comes off. You will marry the person whose name you were saying when the stem fell off. (FIVE OR SIX NAMES?! Isn’t that too much or is it just me?)

Pick a dandelion that has gone to seed. Then, take a deep breath and blow the seeds into the wind. Count the seeds that remain on the stem and that represents the number of children you will have.
(And I wonder, what has children got to do with Valentines Day?)

If you cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you will also know how many children you will have.
(Let’s say you cut an apple today and there were 2 seeds in it. Tomorrow, you cut another apple and there are 3 seeds in it…and it goes on and on…WOW~! So many kids.)

~blackout~

There came a time when I wanted a blackout really badly. I loved the silence and the darkness that came with it; the peaceful atmosphere surrounding me enables me to reminisce about everything that had just gone by in a wink of an eye. Blackouts excited me probably it was because there was an excuse to use the candles and go out to A&W to eat waffles. I never really appreciated blackouts as much as now for I was too small to bother and think so much about them until quite recently – maybe around 3 years ago or more. Those were the days I used to wish for a blackout. Yea, indeed, it is really weird. Who wants that right?

Well, my wish came true. It blacked out on Thursday night at around 11 when I was busy doing some last minute studies for Econs. I was so frustrated and mad with it. However, it was not those kind of mad where one bangs the table, overturn computers, throw knives and forks or things like that. It was just irritation, like a mosquito bite which itches a bit and then it stops bothering you after a while. I took my mum’s advice to sleep early and be content that I have one more day to study before my quiz.

As I lay down on my bed, I recalled that I loved blackouts and I had almost forgotten about it. The clock beside me ticked as if counting the seconds just before doomsday and it made me remember that my friend’s mum hated clocks that made ticking sounds. Besides that, there was nothing else that made any noise. It was funny that the silence the particular night contained, kept me busy by making me amused at it and causing me to forget to reminisce like what I had always wanted.

I managed to read or browse through two chapters the next day when the power failed again at around 2 something. My mum called whoever who were responsible for it and two hours later, when she made the second call, they told her that they were now looking into the matter. We were like “WHAT THE~~~~” but of course we did not say it. Who would not feel like swearing and cursing at that very moment? For me, I was so upset as things were getting from bad to worst. It all started with a blackout, then I became sick, after that it was blackout again, and on the second day of blackout I had to attend a party as an uncle bought a new house just in case the blackout occurs again.

Anyway, all in all, I came to my senses that life without electricity is horrible. My quiz was a disaster as I did not do much reading. Probably, blackouts are nicer if it happened on the 31st of December 2000 ‘cuz at that time, I was in church and we had so many people there, equipped with torchlights and other light giving devices. One might say that blackouts when one is free from studies is much more entertaining, but with all the mosquito and the lack of the usual activity such as watching tv, going online and being comfortable with constant wind (fan or air-cond), I would like to enforce my dislike of blackouts… I hate blackouts. I hate Blackouts! I hate BLACKOUTS~~!!! I HATE BLACKOUTS~~!!!!!

~to a friend, from a friend~

Just when I thought that the world was out there to get at me, I finally realized that after all the sad episode, happy ones come. Not happy as in the really joyful kind of thing but it was merely peace and freedom, in a way, of course. What i meant was, everything went back to normal as the both of us managed to acknowledge one another and sometimes spare a moment or two just to exchange a word or two about ourselves. Sometimes, I do feel that awkwardness and the feeling of slight dislike from her but in the end, things went pretty fine. She did her thing and I did mine.

Now that she is leaving, I have this tinge of regret, probably, for not being able to know her well and see her like how the others who were touched by her. No doubt she did not leave any positive impact upon me at first, but I feel that I would miss having her around. From the time I knew her till today, I must admit that she has change by leaps and bounds; becoming a better and friendlier person besides being Christ like.

I would confess that if I had met her later in life, for instance about 3 years ago, I would have really liked her and made her one of my role models. However, on the other hand, if it hadn’t been for her, I would not know how brutal life can be at this point of life. The different kinds of people we meet everyday can really teach us about life in a way or two. In times of the distress she caused, I realized that there will be people like her or worst than her. She taught me also that there are some people in this world who are difficult to please no matter what you do or how you do it. Besides, she really did knock some sense into me, resulting in who I am now, better I suppose? All in all, I admire her very much for her effort to change; the choice she took and the will to act upon her desire.

It is amusing to have people who have really hurt you a lot and to see them grow up. A privilege, I daresay this was. Well, all the best to whom this may concern, that is if you have somehow trampled onto my blog by accident. Do enjoy yourself and do continue leaving God’s impact on those you have made acquaintance with. :)

~Another one of karie's test~

You are the sort of person that needs a peaceful environment. You seek release from stress and freedom from conflicts and disagreements, of which you seem to have had more than your fair share. But you are taking pains to control the situation by proceeding cautiously and you are right in doing so as you are a very sensitive person.

You are experiencing considerable difficulty trying to achieve your goals. As a consequence of this you are becoming more and more irritable. Your friends and acquaintances are finding it increasingly more difficult to appease or to reason with you. You are the cause of your own problems. Don't be so impulsive. It is your vacillation that can lead to problems and uncertainties. Ease up a little.

We are all conditioned by our environment and as such we respond to people's perception of ourselves, but you feel that conditions are not right at this time. You are experiencing certain reservations that are precluding you to develop a particular relationship, business or personal, that is being offered. It is 'make your mind up time' - the decision is all yours, but whatever decision you make, it will be the right one.

You pretend that you are a carefree individual and that nothing really bothers you - that you are so self-sufficient that whatever problems beset you they simply flow off you as water flows off a ducks back. You are experiencing considerable stress, trying to conceal yourself from the rest of the world. In actual fact - deep down, you are not at all happy. You feel lonely and you need someone with whom you can 'Let your hair down' and share your hopes, dreams and high standards. You are imposing unnecessary self restraint on yourself. You would like to demonstrate the unique quality of your character to all and sundry.

Since in the recent past all of your hopes and aspirations have been denied you, you are now convinced that the future will hold nothing but anxiety so therefore 'why bother?' You would love to get away from it all, to escape from the trials and tribulations of this mundane existence and fall into a peaceful and harmonious relationship, which will protect you from the lack of appreciation and give you the chance to start afresh.
